As the first hybrid hypercar, the Ferrari LaFerrari will always have a place in history, but the SF90 Stradale is an arrow aimed into the future. Whether you’re eyeing a classic like the LaFerrari or want to bring an SF90 Stradale to your Chicago garage, these two high-performance automobiles have quite a bit in common — but they’re surprisingly different as well. Ferrari Lake Forest goes into the details.

LaFerrari vs. SF90: Engines, Drivetrains, and Performance

Between Formula 1 engineering and the HY-KERS hybrid system, the LaFerrari and SF90 have some similar DNA — but their specs come from very different places. Both models benefit from near-instant torque thanks to their electric motors, too. But the decision to turbocharge or not turbocharge has been a controversial one among Ferrari aficionados. While the LaFerrari clearly has the edge on specs, the SF90 will handle in a fundamentally different way — a way in which no other Ferrari handles:

  • The LaFerrari sports a V12 under the hood, mated to a 120 kW electric motor, delivering a total of 949 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. The results? A 0-60 mph time of just 2.4 seconds and a top speed of 218 mph.
  • The SF90 has a twin-turbo V8 that’s paired to a trio of motors totaling 162 kW for a combined 986 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The SF90 hits 60 mph in 2.6 seconds and has a top speed of 211 mph.

Exterior and Design

The LaFerrari’s distinctive hood sports a V-shaped center that delivers a front end unlike anything else on the road or the track. The LaFerrari’s features a unique silhouette as well, with more prominent mirrors and a slimmer look overall.

The SF90, on the other hand, abandons the LaFerrari hood design for a smoother look up front — but the body of the supercar is chunkier, with more angles and fewer curves. The result is an automobile with a truly commanding presence. While the SF90 Stradale powertrain suggests we rethink the future of performance, the design feels reminiscent of the angular Ferraris of the 80s.
